SUELLEN ZHANG
Suellen’s yoga journey began during her university years. From her first experience on the mat, she developed a strong interest in yoga and has continued to practise ever since. After graduating with her master’s degree in 2016, Suellen completed a 350-hour teacher training with the Australia Yoga Academy over the course of one year. She began teaching in 2017, initially focusing on flow and yin yoga.
After several years of teaching, she began to question more deeply what yoga can genuinely offer to people’s physical and mental health. This inquiry led her to discover Iyengar Yoga, and she started practising under the guidance of Vaughan Allan, a Senior Iyengar Certified Level 3 teacher.
In 2023, Suellen committed to a three-year Iyengar Yoga teacher training with Vaughan. Through this ongoing training, she has developed a deeper understanding of the alignment method, the Yoga Sutras, and the use of modifications to meet individual needs.
Her classes are now strongly rooted in the classical Iyengar trained knowledge, with a clear emphasis on alignment, precision, and the intelligent use of props to support safe and effective practice. She also incorporates teachings from the Yoga Sutras into her classes, helping students develop an understanding of the philosophical foundations of yoga alongside physical practice.
Beyond yoga, she is multilingual, an enthusiastic reader, and an adventurous traveller, having lived and practised in different parts of the world. These experiences inform her teaching with a broad perspective and a thoughtful, analytical approach, allowing her to relate yoga practice to everyday life in a clear and practical way.
